Parks and Recreation Department - Summer Positions

All positions must provide their own transportation to and from the work site each day.

Recreation

Positions: Playground, Teen Camp & Counselor in Training (PG/TC/CIT) leaders and supervisors, Camp Weewancha (CW) supervisors
Estimated Hours: Beginning late June for 6-8 weeks,
PG/TC/CIT: Monday-Friday: 8:00am-4:00pm with limited extended hours until 5:30 PM
CW: Mon, Wed, Fri, 8:30am-12:30pm.
Mobile Arts Van: Tue, Thu, 10am-2pm (hours vary)
Salary: Seasonal, Part time: $7.50-11.00/hr commensurate with position, experience and education.
Duties: Create, organize, implement and supervise recreation programs for children ages 3-14, including arts, crafts, games, sports, trips and special events. Interact with children and parents in positive manner. Take disciplinary action, if necessary. Requires the ability to work independently and creatively.
Locations: Leary, Longstreth, McDonald Schools and the WREC. Staff will be placed at our discretion and must have transportation available.
Min. age: Senior in High school. Volunteer Jr. counselors may be 14-17 years of age.
   
Staff is required to be available for entire duration of camp programs and staff orientation - No vacation permitted.
Typically the fourth week of June through second week of August

Aquatics

Positions: Instructors, Lifeguards, Pool Aides
Estimated Hours: Beginning late June for 6 weeks, Monday-Thursday: 8:30am-3:30pm, Friday: 8:30am-1:30pm
Salary: Seasonal, Part time: $7.25-10.00/hr commensurate with positions, experience and education.
Duties: Instructors: Provide quality aquatic instruction to children ages 18 mos to 15 years; interact with parents and children; good communication skill and ability to breakdown aquatic skills into basic components.
Lifeguards: Guard pool during designated class time.
Pool Aides: Assist instructors in the provision of aquatic Instruction.
All staff: must assist with set up and break down of pool area each day.
Requirements: Instructors; WSI preferred or Lifeguard certification and teaching experience. Lifeguard: Lifeguard certification, Pool aides: Completion of highest level of Am. Red Cross Lessons or can demonstrate proficient aquatic skills (discretion of Director).
Min. age: Senior in High school. Pool Aides may be 13-17 years of age.
   
Staff is required to be available for entire duration of swim program and staff orientation - No vacation permitted.
Typically the fourth week of June through second week of August

Tennis

Positions: Instructors
Estimated Hours: Beginning late May or June, usually Monday-Thursday, 9:00-Noon (youth) and Tues/Thur evenings 7:00-10:00pm (adults)
Salary: Seasonal, part time, $10.00-15/hr commensurate with experience and education
Duties: Prepare lessons and teach tennis instruction (beginner to advanced) to youth and adults.
Requirements: Proficient skill and teaching experience (Discretion of the Director) Ability to Interact with persons of all ages and good communication skills. Ability to breakdown teaching techniques for student of all levels.
Min. Age: 17 years
   
   

Parks

Positions: Park Maintenance Crew - Laborer
Estimated Hours: Beginning mid-May, Monday-Friday, 6:30am-3:00pm
Salary: Seasonal, part time, $8.50/hr commensurate with experience and education.
Duties: Perform manual labor to maintain 13 park system and Township facilities utilizing a variety of equipment (commercial mowers, weed whackers, hand tools), landscaping, painting, roof repair, cleaning public facilities and restrooms.
Requirements: Previous work with turf maintenance equipment, landscaping or other related experience. Ability to work as a team member. Valid Drivers license. Experience towing small trailers preferred. Supervision: Provided by members of the Parks & Recreation Staff
