WHAT'S COOKIN' AT WCP?
The Grand Opening of Warminster Community Park last October brought over 8,300 persons to this new park in a single day. Now that the park is open, the trails and playground are being used daily. The Township, working with our Engineer and the Department of Conservation & Natural Resources (DCNR), is working on completing more Phase One improvements using our $250,000 grant award. Although this seems like a lot of money, it doesn't go far when installing infrastructure - electric/water/sewer. Plans for the first large picnic pavilion with restrooms ($100,000) are underway thanks, in part, to a donation by the Hallowell family. Other projects include the conservation plan (forestry, wetland and wildlife), the wildflower meadow and, if we can raise enough funds, Kelsey's Bark Park. The Park Board has been busy reviewing the Master Site Plan that was completed in 2002 in hopes of recommending priorities and funding alternatives to the Board of Supervisors. The Park Board will attempt to provide a realistic schedule and set guidelines for developing the park, while at the same time keeping the cost of the project within the means of Warminster Township.

SPRING AT THE NEW PARK
If you haven't been out to the new park yet this season, look for the following improvements by May: Measuring and marking of the 2.3 mi. perimeter trail, pond trail and 4,000' runway; 'Keep Right' signs have been stenciled on the pathways to prevent accidents; the nature area has been designated with signage; and the perennial garden has been planted. A porta-potty is back in place and trail connections between Munro Park and the new park are complete.
Although we tried to install an ice skating rink, mother nature (wind & weather) was against us this winter. We'll try to start earlier and with a new design for 2005. One thing you'll note upon visiting the park is the WIND! It's constant and can be a gentle breeze or an awesome blast.
As we explore all the program possibilities the new Warminster Community Park has to offer, we invite walkers, cyclists, rollerbladers to enjoy the trails and runway.
WOODS DESIGNATED AS NATURE AREA
The wooded section of the new park has been designated, and posted, as a nature area - home for the many birds, deer and other mammals that reside in the park. Please do not walk in these wooded areas. Dogs are not permitted in the natural area and should be leashed at all times. Hunting, trapping, shooting, etc., are not permitted here or in other areas of the park. Disturbing wildlife will result in a fine. This area patrolled by the PA Game Commission and the Police Department.
BASIC RULES & REGS FOR WCP No motorized vehicles, including scooters and ATVs, are permitted in the parks. Dogs must be on leash and owners are responsible for feces pickup. Everyone should stay out of nature area - Please stick to designated pathways, especially in spring and fall! |
