WARMINSTER COMMUNITY PARK - Grand Opening a Tremendous Success!
If you weren't able to attend the Grand Opening of Warminster Community Park/Warminster Day on Saturday, October 18, 2003, you really missed something spectacular! The event, which welcomed over 8300 residents, featured 170+ volunteers, 90 businesses and civic organizations, 15 different entertainment groups performing all day on two stages, the ribbon cutting of the new aerospace playground, midway games, an inflatable carnival, fire safety demonstrations, a revolutionary war reenactment camp, a giant antique and specialty car show, and food vendors. The day culminated in an incredible fireworks show. This incredible event was fully sponsored by area businesses and individuals, which allowed us to offer most activities free to the public.

GO VOLUNTEERS ARE THE BEST!
On Saturday, October 18, over 170 community volunteers turned out to work at the Grand Opening and Warminster Day. Tasks were as varied as the individuals who came to help. Throughout the day orange-shirted workers performed such tasks as set-up & break down, parking detail, safety & security, vendor & community group management, entertainment coordination, clean team, midway games, and hospitality. The community support that we received towards this event was overwhelming and heartwarming. We greatly appreciate every hour and minute the volunteers gave of themselves to make this event a success.

A Special Thanks goes out to the entire GO Committee
35-40 resident volunteers - that worked tirelessly with the Parks and Recreation Department over nine months to bring this event to its outstanding culmination.

ERICKSON COMPLETES PARK ACCESS DRIVE
Just in time for the grand opening of the new Warminster Community Park, Erickson Construction completed the Park access drive - Veterans Way - along with the lighting, landscaping, turnaround parking, ponds and trail connections. They will continue to complete the final punch-list on this project. The Parks & Recreation Department would like to extend a huge thanks to the staff and subcontractors of Erickson Construction for their continued dedication to this project. We look forward to having our neighbors at the Erickson Retirement Community enjoy the new park!

HATS OFF TO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT!
We greatly appreciate the continued cooperation from Centennial School District, which assisted in several phases of preparation for the Park Grand Opening - from playground installation to event support. Thanks to the incredible administration and staff that continue to work hand-in-hand with the Township in our efforts to improve this community.

WHAT'S NEXT AT WCP?
Now that Warminster Community Park is open, and the trails and playground are in use, the Township will continue to make improvements using our $250,000 grant award from the Department of Conservation & Natural Resources (DCNR) for partial Phase I development. Certain areas may need to be closed for construction as we begin work in the spring on the infrastructure (electric/water), the picnic pavilion donated by Penrose Hallowell, the conservation plan (forestry, wetland and wildlife), the wildflower meadow and, if we can raise enough funds, the dog park. As more funding becomes available, we will continue to build out this, and other, phases of the park.

A committee of staff members, Park Board members, residents and community and business leaders will review the Master Site Plan that was completed in 2002 and will study the development projects that are contained in it. They will recommend priorities and funding alternatives to the Board of Supervisors. The committee will attempt to provide a realistic schedule and set guidelines for developing the park, while at the same time keeping the cost of the project within the means of Warminster Township. The final recommendations will appear in future editions of the Recreation Directory

Special Donation follows Park Grand Opening
Parks & Recreation would like to thank the Early Ford V-8 Club -Delaware Valley Chapter for donating $500 of the proceeds from the antiques and specialty car show that took place during the Grand Opening.

WINTER AT THE NEW PARK
As we explore all the program possibilities the new Warminster Community Park has to offer, we invite walkers, cross country skiers and ice skaters to visit. After the first of the year, we will be developing a skate rink on the runway. Skaters should use this area next to the playground for skating and NOT the pond, as aerators will keep the pond from freezing. Wide open meadows will provide ample area for skiers and we will try to keep the path plowed throughout the winter for walkers. Motorized vehicles, including ATVs and snow mobiles, are not permitted in the parks.

GOT PROGRAMMING IDEAS??
We invite the public to suggest activities and programs specially designed for this huge space! Your creative suggestion could easily become a reality.

WOODS DESIGNATED AS NATURE AREA
The wooded section of the new park has been designated, and posted, as a nature area - home for the many birds, deer and other mammals that reside in the park. If you walk in this area, please stay on the paved pathway or in the finger meadows. Dogs are not permitted in the natural area and should be leashed at all times. Hunting, trapping, shooting, etc., are not permitted here or in other areas of the park. Disturbing wildlife may result in a fine
