NAWC Update #7

MOVING FORWARD AT

WARMINSTER COMMUNITY PARK

One Name, Two Names, Three Names, MORE . . .
With over 450 names entered into the Warminster Township Parks and Recreation Department "Name the Park Contest" and only one park to name, the choices were varied and creative! We would like to thank everyone who took time the time to enter, send us fabulous information and teach us something new about the land formerly known as NAWC. On July 24, the Board of Supervisors announced the winning name - "WARMINSTER COMMUNITY PARK". Charles Erato, a Warminster resident, was the first to enter the winning name for this contest and will be presented with his award on October 18th at the Grand Opening of the new park. Honorable Mention goes to the Batezel Family who submitted this name later. The Parks & Recreation Department feels confident that we will be able to use some of the other inventive suggestions to create special park areas within this massive open space parcel.

CHI helps develop Park Grand Opening logo!
CHI Institute has donated the services of several graphic artists to help us design the logo for the Park Grand Opening; this logo will be used in our promotional materials. Thanks CHI Institute!!!

BIG THANKS TO ERICKSON
The Parks & Recreation Department would like to extend our thanks to the staff and subcontractors of Erickson Construction for working so hard to complete your portion of Phase I of the park development within the timeline. We look forward to having the Erickson Retirement Community as our neighbors!

Township receives $250,000 in grant funding
Since our last directory, the Township has received notification of a $250,000 grant award from the Department of Conservation & Natural Resources (DCNR) for partial Phase I development of the new Warminster Community Park. At present, the park is one huge construction site, unsafe for visitors, as Erickson Construction completes the park access drive and adjacent multipurpose trail, four retention ponds with aerating fountains, a small landscaped retention basin, parking areas, landscaping and lighting.

In addition, the Township is completing construction of the connecting trails, installing the aerospace playground, landscaping, benches, bike racks and picnic tables so that the "basics" are in place for the Grand Opening on October 18. 2003. Eagle Scouts Will Henry and Brett Lipschultz, will also be working on landscaping and NASA solar system walk installation prior to this special event.

Items scheduled to be completed after the Grand Opening include the installation of infrastructure (electric/water), the picnic pavilion donated by Penrose Hallowell, the conservation plan (forestry, wetland and wildlife), the wildflower meadow and, if we can raise enough funds, the dog park. As more funding becomes available, we will continue to build out this phase.

See you at Warminster Community Park Grand Opening - October 18th!
