NAWC Update #6

MOVING FORWARD AT NAWC

Hallowell donates $$$ for pavilion!
Penrose Hallowell has donated $20,000 to build a pavilion in the new park at NAWC. This donation was made in honor of his father's contributions to the growth of this community as a long time Warminster resident, Township Supervisor, Tax Collector and School Board member. We thank the Hallowell family for their generous donation - especially since this is our first Capital Contribution

Wal-Mart's Not All "WET"
The Township has received a Community Environmental Grant for $500 from Wal-Mart to improve WETLAND plantings in the pond at the NAWC park.

NAWC Progress Report
As the Township waits for word from the Department of Conservation & Natural Resources (DCNR) on our Phase I development grant for the new park at NAWC, we continue to develop numerous private and public partnerships to assist us with moving this project forward. Phase I of development includes the portion of the project that Erickson Retirement Communities (ERC) has agreed to complete for the Township, which consists of the park access drive and adjacent multipurpose trail, four retention ponds with aerating fountains, a small landscaped retention basin, parking areas, landscaping and lighting. The Township hopes to complement these items with additional recreation components - NASA Solar System Walk, pavilion and restrooms, interpretive historical perimeter multipurpose trail, forestry and wetland education programs, wildflower meadow, additional parking and maintenance facility. In addition, we've already received a 50% matching grant from GameTime to purchase our specially designed aerospace playground - saving over $50,000.

The Township hopes to begin construction in summer of 2003 so that some of Phase I is complete in time for our grand opening in October. All of this work will not be complete by October 18 but at least some items will be in place, and there will be lots of open space for the public to enjoy. Throughout the summer, the Public Works/Park Departments will be expanding and extending the perimeter trail, installing access gates at various sites, installing the new play apparatus, clearing the fence lines of debris and brush and, if time permits, painting the fence between the park and local residents.
