WE KEEP MOVING FORWARD AT WARMINSTER COMMUNITY PARK (WCP)
The Township continues to utilize the remainder of our $250,000 grant award from the Dept. of Conservation & Natural Resources (DCNR), to complete Phase One improvements. This fall, we will begin the pavilion project that will result in a new large pavilion and restrooms at the Warminster Community Park. This complex project is a cooperative venture between the Township, Municipal Authority and outside contractors. The Hallowell family also made a generous donation towards its completion. We hope to have the pavilion and the necessary infrastructure completed before winter.

THESE WOODS ARE LOVELY…
The wooded section of the new park has been designated, and posted, as a nature area - home for the many birds, deer and other mammals that reside in the park. After the first frost, male deer may become aggressive and should be avoided. Please do not walk in these wooded areas. Dogs are not permitted in the natural area and should be leashed at all times while in the park. Hunting, trapping, shooting, and disturbing of wildlife, etc., are not permitted and will result in a fine. This area patrolled by the PA Game Commission and the Police Department.
NO MOW ZONES
Throughout the park system, the Township has instituted several "No Mow" Zones. We have stopped mowing certain areas to allow native plants and grasses to grow. All areas will be posted. These "no mow" zones will allow large areas at WCP to return to meadow and natural habitat. These no mow zones may take several seasons to establish properly. We thank all residents for their patience during this process.
THE FUTURE OF WCP - A REFERENDUM QUESTION
The Park Board and Park staff, working with the Heritage Conservancy, have reviewed the Master Site Plan to reduce the original cost and timing of $52 million and 25 years to $10 million and 5 years and, even though the original scope has been greatly reduced, it continues to accommodate Warminster's recreational needs.
On August 26, 2004, the Park Board and Staff made a presentation to the Board of Supervisors requesting that the Warminster residents be allowed to vote for funding for the park's development through a referendum on the upcoming November ballot. In that presentation, all of the components of this project were discussed - Infrastructure, sport facilities, all other facilities (both active & passive), professional services & other contingencies, grant matches and maintenance. The breakdown for the $10 Million is as follows:
It is estimated that this will cost each household approx. $8/month to fund this project ($6 will be dedicated to development debt and $2 to maintenance). - the cost of dinner once a month at a fast food restaurant.
The Board of Supervisors will consider placing a referendum on the November, 2004 ballot at their meeting on September 9, 2004. The Park Board and the Park Staff encourages everyone to attend this meeting to support placing the referendum on the ballot and to vote YES for the referendum in November. If a resolution to place the referendum on the ballot is approved, more detailed information will be publicized regarding this project - Watch for it! The future of the park is now in your hands!
