Youth Sports

SPORT CAMPS
Parks & Rec will offer a variety of sport camps to area youth.  Start them early with Sport Squirts or continue to develop skills and techniques with the multi-sport program.  All sport camps are held at the WREC.

Sports Squirts
Date: Tue/Thu, Jul. 8-17
Time: 4:00-5:00 PM
Ages: 3-5
Fees: $50/R     $55/NR
Is your child still too young to pick their favorite sport?  Try this program to let your child sample sports and learn hand-eye coordination, motor and communication skills.  Some of the sports included are Soccer, Street Hockey, Wiffle ball, Kickball, Mini-Olympics and more. 

Multi-Sports I
Date: Tue/Thu, Jul. 22-31
Time: 4:00 PM–5:30 PM
Ages: 5-7
Fees: $75/R    $80/NR

Multi-Sports II

Our Multi-sports camp is geared to strengthen and develop basic skills while letting your child sample a variety of sports without having to sign up for a season.  Participants will receive skill knowledge in each of these sports: Netball, Basketball, Wiffle ball, Kickball, Tennis, Frisbee, Pillo-Polo, Rugby, Flag Football, Bocce, Softball, Volleyball, Soccer, Badminton…  Must bring a water bottle & snack each day.

JUNIOR GOLF CLINIC
Session 1: Mon–Fri, Jun. 23-27
Session 2: Mon-Fri, Aug. 11-15
Time: 8:00 AM-12:00 PM
Fees: $280/student
Ages: 9-16 yrs
Beginner golfers, with little or no experience, will learn the basic building blocks of grip, aim, stance, posture and other golfing techniques. Fee includes practice balls, snack, drink and lunch each day. (Club rental available at course.) All youth lessons and clinics are provided by a PGA Professional at Five Ponds Golf Club. Class size limited.

USTA Tennis Programs

All Tennis programs will be held at William Tennent High School.  All participants should bring a water bottle and racquet. Register early!  Class sizes are limited.

YOUTH TENNIS INSTRUCTION:  USA Tennis 1-2-3: Beginners
Learn the correct way to play tennis.  Instruction will be given in the basic shots and skills, while participants enjoy lessons which emphasize fun and movement.    Fees/Session: $45/R    $50/NR

Grades: entering 9th and up
Each session provides intense training to develop the competitive High School player by featuring instruction, drilling, and match play each day.  Qualified players are put in small groups with instructors who have experience and knowledge and who care about individual development.  Athletic conditioning and training will also take place.  Please bring two cans of tennis balls per session. Not an introductory course, must have completed the Tennis Prep Course or have been playing competitive tennis. Players may require instructor approval to participate.  Max 24 players.

BMX Workshops

BMX workshops are held at the Warminster Skate Spot in Munro Park. Pre-registration, helmets and safety equipment are required to participate. The Skate Spot will be closed to the public during these classes. All classes are weather permitting.

The Basics

Participants will learn some basic tricks and safety measures during the first half hour and then practice for an hour under the guidance of the instructor.

Experienced

Youth with BMX experience are invited to attend this workshop to learn more advanced tricks such as grinds, airs, 180's & 360's. The first half hour is with instructor and then practice for an hour with guidance.

Basic Climbing Camps

Four week sessions of fun for all ages! Classes held at the Doylestown Rock Gym, Old Easton Road, Doylestown

These half & full-day camps will have participants climbing the walls with fun games and activities. Each day will bring new excitement, whether it's learning a climbing skill or conquering a challenge. All campers will learn proper safety, how to use a harness and helmet, various knots, climbing technique and more. Climbers staying for a full day experience will have the added bonus of climbing advanced walls as well as trying our indoor challenge course complete with zip line. Open to ages 6-12. All climbing classes held at Doylestown Rock Gym. Class sizes are limited so register early!

Programs with Bucks Co. Parks and Recreation

JUNIOR ADVENTURE CAMP
Date: Jul. 14-18
Time: 9:00 AM-4:00 PM
Fees: $130/child, then $100 for each additional child in the same family. Ages: 10-14 years (as of June 1, 2008).
Location: Youth Services “Barn”, Neshaminy Manor Center, Rt. 611, Doylestown.
This is an educational and recreational program for youth ages 10-14. Using adventure activities such as rock climbing and hiking as tools, kids learn to develop confidence, cooperation, leadership and self-esteem. Each day will offer a different experience; with activities including high/low ropes course work, paddling, group initiatives or hiking. Class size is limited to 16 maximum/12 minimum to hold the camp. Ratio of instructor to camper is 1:8 Co-sponsored with Bucks Co. Parks and Youth Services of Pennsylvania.

ON THE WATER WITH BUCKS CO. PARKS & RECREATION
All “ON THE WATER” programs held in cooperation with the Buck County Parks & Recreation Department and are held at Peace Valley Park Boat Rental, Creek Road, New Britain Township. These programs are not qualified for WREC member rates.

Junior Sailing Camp
Date: Mon-Fri, Jul. 7-11
Time 9:00 AM-Noon
Fees: $165/child for this 15-hour program
Ages: 10-16 years
This beginner sailing program will teach the basics of sailing. Kids will gain knowledge of various types of sail boats, terminology, sailing skills, rules of the road, safety, rescues and practical experience handling a boat. This course will be taught by Steve Mink and Bob Wagner, owners of the Liberty School of Sailing in Philadelphia. Both men are Coast Guard Captains and each has been teaching since 1980. They are also certified with the US Sailing Association. This camp is limited to 16 students/8 to hold the camp minimum, with the staff ratio of 1:8. A practical test will be given at the end with a certificate of completion. Bring snacks, beverage and footwear.

Junior Boating Camps leaf

Fees: $65/person/session.
Ages: 10-16 years
Participants will learn the basics of boating safety and fundamentals of paddling and rowing. They will have an opportunity to use our canoes, sit-on-top kayaks and rowboats. An experienced and knowledgeable instructor will teach the camp. Class size: Maximum 16 students/minimum of 8 to hold the camp. Students must wear footwear and bring a snack.

FATHER’S DAY FISHING DERBY FOR KIDS

Junior Fishing Classes
Session 1: Fri, Jul. 11

Fees: $25/child/session
Ages: 6-14 years
This program will be for children and will include major types of fishing (spin casting, bait fishing and fly fishing), the use of live bait vs. lures and different types of fish ecosystems. All equipment included. Kids should bring a beverage and snack. Min 4/max 12/class. Instructor, Steve Ruane formerly had successful bait and tackle business and now works in Education.
