Try something different with these outdoor one-hour flat water/recreational kayaking workshops. This one-time program can be taken by beginners – choose a date that best fits YOUR schedule. Boats, vests and paddles are supplied. Beginners will spend time learning the water safety and skills needed to be on open water. The rest of the time is spent practicing your new hobby. Youth under 16 yrs must be accompanied by adult. Class size is limited to 6, so register early. Location: Peace Valley Park, (Sailor's Point public boat launch off New Galena Rd). ON THE WATER WITH BUCKS COUNTY PARKS
All “ON THE WATER” programs held in cooperation with the Buck County Parks & Recreation Department and are held at Peace Valley Park, Creek Road, New Britain. These programs do not qualify for WREC member rates.
“Moonlight Canoe Tours”
Date: May 17, Jun. 21, Jul. 19 and Aug. 16
Time: 9:00-11:00 PM for each date
Bucks County Parks & Rec Department will offer fun ”moonlight” kayak/canoe tours to experienced kayakers and canoers that are 18 years and older. THIS PROGRAM IS NOT A LEARN TO KAYAK OR CANOE PROGRAM!! For more information on meeting place, fees and requirements, call (215) 489-5132. The deadline to register is one week prior to the date of program. Reservations are limited to a max of 16 people. The staff is American Red Cross Small Craft Safety and CPR/First Aid trained.
American Red Cross Small Craft Safety Course:
Date: Jun. 18 & 19
Time: 9:00 AM-4:00 PM
Fees: $45/person
Ages: 12 years and older
Location: Peace Valley Boat Rental
Students participating in this two-day program will learn about safety and emergency training in crafts such as canoes and kayaks. Class size is limited to 10 people. Participants should bring a change of clothing, have protective footwear, and bring a lunch. Fee includes American Red Cross Small Craft Safety Course certification, textbook and instruction.
Sailing Lessons
Individual beginner sailing lessons will be available from June 21 to August 9. These lessons offered by the boat center staff will cover the proper care of the equipment (Aqua Finns and Day Sailor’s), sailing skills, rules of the road, safety tips, righting a boat and rescues to name a few. Call the Boat Center after May 5 to schedule a date and time for a class. Reservations required at least two weeks prior to the date desired. Reservation depends on staff availability.
