The Patrol Squads are headed by a Sergeant and a Corporal. The Patrol Squad is
responsible for answering the day to day calls and actively patrolling the community. The
Patrolmen handle most investigations and complaints that come into the department. To
assist the patrol squads in meeting the needs of the community their are special units built
into the squad.
The first special unit in the squad is a K-9 Officer and his trained Police Dog. These K-9's are
trained in patrol work as well as drug detection and/or bomb detection.
The department has just formed a bike patrol unit. These officers are trained in techniques to
utilize a specially equipped mountain bike to fight and prevent crime. The bike is essential
when attempting to get certain places a car or truck can not go.
Some other specialties that Officer's in the department are trained in are as follows: Accident
Reconstruction / Investigation, Traffic Safety, Crime Scene investigation, negotiation,
defensive tactics, firearms. Less than lethal weapons, and officer's trained in special
operations such as the Special Response Team members (SRT) and members of the Major
Incident Response Team (MIRT).
When needed an investigation may be turned over to the department's Detective Division.
The Detective Division consists of a Sergeant of Detectives, and 4 Detectives, as well as two
specially trained officers who deal with special investigations, violent crime, and drug activity.
The Highway Safety Unit (HSU) was formed to devote its attention to making the roadways a
safer place in Warminster Township. These Officer's dedicate their shift to enforcing traffic
laws, conducting traffic studies, and assisting the patrol squads with more serious accident
investigations as well as normal patrol duties.
The SRT members or more commonly known as SWAT, are highly trained officers, trained in
the areas of tactics, weapons and special incident response which would go above and
beyond that of a normal patrolmen. These Officers devote much of their personal time to
training and staying ahead of the criminals of the world, both physically and mentally. The
members of this unit are Warminster Officers who are attached to the Central Bucks Special
Response team (CBSRT) with Officers from around the county.
The Major Incident Response Team (MIRT) is a County Wide Team which consists of over
100 officers from all over the county. The members of this team respond if needed to any
natural disaster, Riots, major events such as presidential visits or protests, and are trained to
respond to Chemical / biological incidents, as well as terrorist attacks.
